Learn more about this product. A food supplement in the form of hard capsules containing lactoferrin - a protein from the glycoprotein group that has the ability to bind and transport iron. Proferrin® lactoferrin is obtained from cow's milk. If you want to take care of your immunity and improve iron absorption, consider supplementing with lactoferrin. Lactoferrin is described as a multifunctional protein found in many body fluids, including milk, saliva, and tears. It can help protect against bacteria and viruses and support every cell in the body against oxidative stress. Lactoferrin, which is part of milk proteins (lacto + ferrin = milk + iron), has antiviral, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and immunomodulating effects. It is an iron-binding glycoprotein (approximately 77 kDa) that helps balance iron levels in the body. Iron deficiency, which manifests itself through excessive fatigue, weakness, dizziness and headaches, heart palpitations, as well as excessive hair loss and deterioration of skin and nails, significantly impairs quality of life. Supplementation with lactoferrin in such cases can be beneficial in supporting iron absorption and addressing iron deficiency. Excessive iron levels can also be harmful, causing the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and lactoferrin, due to its ability to bind strongly and reversibly with iron ions, helps the body maintain homeostasis of this element. This glycoprotein supports the immune system in fighting chronic inflammatory processes that cause iron deficiency. In a study involving female long-distance runners who supplemented with lactoferrin alongside iron for 8 weeks, positive changes in blood counts and lactate levels were observed compared to participants who received only iron. This indicates the positive effect of lactoferrin on iron levels and tolerance to physical activity. Furthermore, lactoferrin can be successfully used by pregnant women, not only to support iron absorption but also to support immune function due to its proven safety. A review noted that under the influence of lactoferrin supplementation, pregnant women show improved iron absorption, favorable changes in blood morphology, and less digestive discomfort when taking oral iron concurrently. The reduction in gastrointestinal side effects when combining oral iron with lactoferrin is likely due to the lack of excess free iron in the digestive tract. This avoids irritation of the mucosa and impaired intestinal motility. In addition, lactoferrin can support our immune function by increasing immune cell activity and inhibiting pathogenic bacteria and viruses. Observations have shown the positive effect of lactoferrin supplementation or the consumption of lactoferrin-enriched fermented milk on the skin, reducing acne vulgaris by 20.3% compared to placebo and improving its condition in general. Our supplement contains up to 200 mg of Proferrin® lactoferrin, the purest brand of lactoferrin on the market (>95%), in one capsule.
