Shea butter also called Karité Butter, Galam Butter or simply shea oil. Shea butter is a plant from the sacrificial family, which can be found in western and central Africa. It is cultivated mainly for its fruit, which is very rich in fats. The famous butter is made from crushed seeds. The fruits are ripe after about 5 months. One tree yields approximately 15-20 kilograms of fruit, which resembles a plum, is yellow-green in color and is edible. This amount will ultimately yield a kilogram of butter. According to the traditional recipe, Shea Butter is made by hand only by women; men do not take part in the production process and cannot touch the trees, it is only allowed during cutting. Seed processing varies depending on the region, but usually they are first dried in the sun, removed from the hard shell and then crushed in mortars into a very fine powder. The powder is dried and boiled in water until it reaches a uniform, smooth consistency.
